Why put off tomorrow what you can do today?

Most of the time if we keep a tally in our mind or jot down something that needs to be done on a random post-it, but the reality is, if we don’t see it, then it doesn’t exist! If you feel yourself jotting down “to-do’s” and they get pushed off to the next day, next week or possibly sometime in the future, then it’s time to reorganize and prioritize to ensure things aren’t piling up and leaving you feeling overwhelmed.

In an effort to be more productive with our time and not leave all of it until the last minute, it’s helpful to keep a continual list as things pop up in your mind that have to get done. Try to keep a list in one location, so you can see everything. This might be a planner, your smart phone, iPad or tablet. Keep your list in a location, which you can view often.  This will organize all of your tasks and allow you to keep checking off items on your “To do” list.  Your challenge: Commit to this- If something takes 5 minutes or less to do, then do it immediately!

If you are looking at your list, thinking you just don’t know where to begin, then number the tasks according to importance. This will ensure you are getting done what absolutely has to be taken care of and allowing you time to enjoy later. If items of minimal importance, don’t need to be done right away, but you don’t want to forget about them, then keep it at the bottom of the list with a date attached to it to make sure that you don’t miss it.

Most importantly, don’t let it pile up… Stay on top of it each day, and it won’t seem like such a daunting task.

Try to move more everyday...

If you can't exercise for a 30-60 minutes, try 10-15 minutes several times a day. Consider your daily routine and the options to enhance your fitness routine.
Some of these options are simple changes that you can add into your day to make a big difference in your physique:

Take the stairs every time! It’s an opportunity to stretch your legs so take advantage and to tone the backs of your legs. Already do this? Make your step a little bigger and step up every two steps.

Park as far away as possible! I understand time can be a factor, and we can find so many reasons to want a VIP Parking space, however I encourage you to find a spot that will get your legs moving, and if you’re in a time crunch, it ensures you’re walking a little quicker.

When putting away groceries or doing chores around the house or in the garage, I recommend using your legs to bend down and pick something up. Many of us face issues with back pain. Bring awareness to what you are physically doing and make adjustments. For example, when you are putting away groceries, bend down into a squat position to pick up the item instead of hunching over and causing stress on your lower back.

Lastly, if you have a few spare minutes, but can’t head out for walk, make a class at the gym and just not too sure what to do, I suggest turning on the computer, and streamline a workout video- try youtube. A colleague of mine recently used this option when traveling. Type in “Best workout videos” and give one a try!

Finding time...

Where does it go? Take advantage of opportunities that are available to you in the moment. Sometimes we are too tired to meet up with friends, go to the gym to workout, or even make it though the day at work. Whether we’re short on sleep or just feeling like we need a break from the daily grind, it’s necessary to “make” an effort to get involved and accept invitations to participate in activities which we may wish that we could push to the side. Give it a try and I have a feeling you’ll be happy with the outcome!

Finding Time Today...

Take a moment to yourself. This might sound like something that is easier said than done!  I find the best time is early in the morning before everyone wakes up or late in the evening when everyone is asleep.

We all are “looking” for time to catch up on our own personal things that often get swept to the side during the day. Decide if you’re a morning person or a night owl and allow yourself time to tackle tasks without multitasking several other things at the same time. Allow your mind to think and prepare for the upcoming week, day or possibly the next few hours!

I took time this morning to work on wedding planning, pay bills and utilized my time to ensure I will be able to enjoy time with my family after work today.

Make it a great Thursday!

Where does the "time" go?

Do you ever feel like days, weeks or even months fly by and you just don't know where the time has gone?

You're not alone. We live in a world in which we work 30% more than we did 50 years ago. Although we can't create more hours in the day, we can certainly plan and organize our days to ensure we make the best use of our time. It doesn't need to be January 1st to make a resolution. Regardless of the time of year, I encourage you to  create short and long term goals. I recommend making a list and writing them down in two columns. Short term goals on the left and long term goals on the right. Define the time-frame for each  one of your goals. Have your goals listed in a place that is visible. Furthermore, I recommend a daily planner or small journal which you can write down your goals for each week and ultimately organize everyday.  Another benefit of a daily planner is that you can look back and reflect on your goals as you have attained each one.  It provides a sense of accomplishment and awareness about how you are spending your "time"
